Who We Are

Our Vision
Smart giving. Better results.

Our Mission
Growing effective philanthropy by connecting donors to the causes they care about, providing excellent stewardship of assets entrusted to us, and convening resources to address important community needs.

Core Values
Power of Philanthropy
We respect the power of philanthropy to transform lives and shape the course of Houston’s destiny.

We hold sacred the intentions of donors and respect the worth of their wisdom.

We do not supplant the intentions of donors with the desires or motivations of others.

Spirit of Entrepreneurship
We cherish the philanthropic entrepreneurship of donors which nurtures and renews the community.

We maximize the value of donor legacy through innovative, customized philanthropic solutions and the more efficient allocation of private capital.

We are not complacent, do not alter from our purpose, nor lose sight of our vision.

Passion for Performance
We are accountable to the Governing Board, Donors, and the Community.

We accept nothing less than the best from ourselves, learn from our mistakes, and continuously improve.

We do not make excuses or avoid responsibility for our actions.

Our History
The Greater Houston Community Foundation began operations in 1995 and ended 2009 with over $250 million in assets in more than 600 funds. In 2009 our donors made grants totaling $55 million to a variety of nonprofits.

The Community Foundation offers many easy ways to help you make a significant impact with your giving. By partnering with GHCF, donors gain the simplicity and optimal tax benefits of giving to a public charity combined with the recognition, involvement and flexibility of giving through a private foundation.

GHCF donors also gain an opportunity to participate in a community-wide strategic dialogue on developing innovative and collaborative solutions to meet community challenges.
