- The scholarship program will be operated through the Greater Houston Community Foundation.
Eligibility
- A graduating high school senior or an undergraduate student working towards an undergraduate degree or completion of a recognized course of study in the areas of or related to earth science, environmental science, engineering, mathematics or physics at an academically accredited institution and in good scholastic standing
- Has maintained a grade point average of 3.5 or better on a 4.0 unweighted scale on high school studies; or 3.0 or better on the two most recent college semesters, as applicable; or otherwise satisfies the Scholarship Committee as to satisfactory academic standing
- Plans on enrolling, or is enrolled, in any accredited college or university as a full-time student taking a minimum of 12 hours per semester. Trade schools will not qualify
- Must be 25 years of age or less by August 1 of the semester for which they receive the award
- An applicant must be a legal dependent of (i) a current fulltime employee having at least one year of service as of January 1 of the year in which the application is submitted, or (ii) a former fulltime employee who was employed after January 1, 2003 for at least one year, in either case, with Southwestern Energy Company or any of the following subsidiaries of Southwestern Energy Company:

Submission Requirements - Completed and signed application
- Two essays that are typed and no longer than two pages on the following topics:
- (A) A discussion of the importance of the free enterprise system and market driven economy to the continued existence of the American Dream
- (B) The significance of an education to the well being of an individual and society
- A certified transcript demonstrating adherence to academic standards
