Application Information

Introduction:

The Hilcorp Future Leaders of America Scholarship Program was established with the vision of developing future leaders in the math and science field. The mission of the program is to provide scholarship opportunities to graduating high school seniors who excel in the subjects of math and science and attend a high school located in an area where Hilcorp Energy Company has oil and gas operations.

Scholarship Award:

Hilcorp will award a scholarship in the total amount of $10,000, paid $2,500 per academic year, to one graduating high school senior from each of the following schools:

Erath High School, Erath, LA
Franklin High School, Franklin, LA
Hahnville High School, Boutte, LA
Patterson High School, Patterson, LA
Refugio High School, Refugio, TX
South Plaquemines High School, Port Sulphur, LA
South Terrebonne High School, Bourg, LA
Sweeny High School, Sweeny, TX
Terrebonne High School, Houma, LA
Vidor High School, Vidor, TX
Kenai Central, Kenai, AK
Skyview High School, Soldotna, AK
Soldotna High School, Soldotna, AK
Ninilchik High School, Ninilchik, AK
Nikiski High School, Nikiski, AK

The scholarship is to be used for pursuing full-time undergraduate studies at a recognized university. An initial award of $2,500 will be paid to the scholarship winner. Upon successful completion of first year studies and other criteria established by Hilcorp, the recipient may be eligible to receive a three-year renewable award of $2,500 annually.

The scholarship award will be sent directly to the college or university that the student will be attending to cover tuition, room and board, books and fees. When all of these expenses are covered, the balance can be released to the student to cover transportation and other living expenses.
 
Eligibility:
• Must be a graduating high school senior from one of the listed high schools
• Must be a U.S. citizen
• Winners of the scholarship must enter college in the fall term following the award and must enroll as a full-time (at least 12 hours per semester) undergraduate in a recognized college or university in the U.S. that holds accredited status with a regional accrediting commission on higher education
 
Criteria:
• Applicants must have maintained at least a 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) grade point average during high school.

Renewal Criteria:
The scholarship is awarded for one year. However, the student may renew up to three consecutive years subject to the following criteria and availability of funds:
 
• Maintains a 3.0 GPA (in most recent two semesters)
• Completes at least 12 credit hours per semester
• Completes the renewal form and submits by the deadline date provided
 
Application Procedures:

Hilcorp will furnish and distribute applications and communication about the scholarship program to the school. The application and scholarship information will be posted on the Greater Houston Community Foundation's web page (www.ghcf.org/).

Interested students must complete the application in full either typed or printed neatly and return with the other required information before or on the annual due date.

Scholarship Selection Committee:

Hilcorp employs the service of The Greater Houston Community Foundation Scholarship Advisory Committee to manage evaluating and selecting winners of The Hilcorp Future Leaders of America Scholarship Program. The selection of recipients is made on an equitable and non-discriminatory basis. Any committee member with a past or current relationship with any applicant or family member will not participate in assessing that application.

For the purpose of evaluation of applicants, the Scholarship Advisory Committee will review all completed applications that meet the basic eligibility criteria. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
