Carolyn J and Robert J Allison Scholarship

THE PROGRAM

A scholarship program has been established with funds through the Greater Houston Community Foundation to assist students who plan to continue their education in college. Scholarships are offered each year for fulltime study at an accredited institution of the student's choice.

This scholarship program is administered by Scholarship Management Services®, a division of Scholarship America®. Scholarship Management Services is the nation's largest designer and manager of scholarship and tuition reimbursement programs for corporations, foundations, associations and individuals. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin.

ELIGIBILITY
Applicants to the Carolyn J. & Robert J. Allison Jr. Scholarship Program must be:
  • Dependent* children, age 24 and under, of full-time Anadarko Petroleum Corporation employees** who have a minimum of two years of employment with the company as of January 1, 2010. High school seniors or graduates who have maintained a 2.5 grade point average or better on a 4.0 scale, who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled in a full-time*** undergraduate course of study at an accredited two-year or four-year college, university, or vocational-technical school.
    * Applicant must be a legal dependent as defined by the Anadarko Petroleum Corporation benefits plan.
    ** Employees must be employed with Anadarko Petroleum Corporation or any of its subsidiaries. The employee must be active, retired, deceased (while in service or retired), or receiving benefits from the Company's long-term disability plan. For purposes of the scholarship program, an employee is considered retired if such employee's service terminated at or after age 55 with at least five years of service after age 50.
    *** Full-time study is defined as full-time enrollment for the entire upcoming academic year.
     
  • The children of named Officers and Board of Director Members at Anadarko Petroleum Corporation are ineligible for participation in the Allison Scholarship program. Also, students currently receiving benefits from other APC scholarship programs are not eligible for this scholarship simultaneously.
AWARDS
If selected as a recipient, the student will receive a $3,000 award. Up to 12 awards will be granted each year. Awards are not renewable, but students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

APPLICATION
Interested students must complete the application and mail it along with a current, complete transcript of grades to Scholarship Management Services postmarked no later than April 1. Grade reports are not acceptable. Online transcripts must display student name, school name, grade and credit hours earned for each course, and term in which each course was taken. Applicants will receive acknowledgment of receipt of their application. If an acknowledgment card is not received within three weeks, applicants may call Scholarship Management Services to verify that the application has been received.

Applicants are responsible for gathering and submitting all necessary information. Applications are evaluated on the information supplied; therefore, answer all questions as completely as possible. Incomplete applications will not be evaluated. All information received is considered confidential and is reviewed only by Scholarship Management Services.

SELECTION OF RECIPIENTS
Scholarship recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, work experience, statement of goals and aspirations, unusual personal or family circumstances, and an outside appraisal. Preference will be given to students enrolled in geophysical science or closely related majors, but awards will not be limited to those majors.

Selection of recipients is made by Scholarship Management Services. In no instance does any officer or employee of Anadarko Petroleum Corporation or the Greater Houston Foundation play a part in the selection. All applicants agree to accept the decision as final.

Applicants will be notified in May. Not all applicants to the program will be selected as recipients. Students may reapply to the program each year they meet eligibility requirements.

PAYMENT OF SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarship Management Services processes Carolyn J. & Robert J. Allison Jr. scholarship payments on behalf of the Greater Houston Community Foundation. Payments are made in equal installments on August 15 and December 30. Checks are mailed to each recipient's home address and are made payable to the school for the student.

OBLIGATIONS
Recipients have no obligation to Anadarko Petroleum Corporation or the Greater Houston Community Foundation. They are, however, required to notify Scholarship Management Services of any changes in address, school enrollment, or other relevant information and to send a complete transcript when requested.

REVISIONS
The Greater Houston Community Foundation reserves the right to review the conditions and procedures of this scholarship program and to make changes at any time including termination of the program.
